The ACSD Induction Teachers met on November 21, 2024 at the District Office with Angie Ferguson, Director of Human Resources. The meeting was hosted by the Alpha Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Rhonda Arnold, of the Alpha Omega Chapter in SC, opened the meeting by introducing first year teachers to the Mission of DKG.
The Mission Statement: The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.
The Vision Statement, Leading Women Educators; Impacting Education Worldwide, was included throughout the entire meeting as Gail Johnson and Madeline Phillips, of the Alpha Omega Chapter in Abbeville, shared some of the local projects that they have sponsored in the past along with upcoming projects. The Alpha Omega Chapter also awards Grants for teachers wishing to pursue a Master's Degree or PhD.
Madeline Philips, Alpha Omega member, teaches kindergarten and first grade at Long Cane Elementary in Abbeville. Ms. Phillips shared that the current projects that DKG will support this year are Mary's Closet and The Little Library located in Antreville. Mary’s closet was housed at Long Cane Elementary but will now be housed at the District Office. This closet is filled with teacher supplies for all teachers in the Abbeville County School District. Many different organizations donate to fulfill teacher needs. Teachers request pencils, notebook paper, bookbags, office supplies, and art supplies to use in the classroom. Books will also be donated to the Little Library for all ages to enjoy.

The meeting featured an inspiring address by Braden Wilson, the 2025 South Carolina Teacher of the Year. During her visit, Mrs. Wilson spoke passionately about the impact several educators had on her decision to become a teacher. She honored each one by sharing how they influenced her journey and encouraged the new teachers to recognize the lasting impact they have on their own students. Her message was a powerful reminder that educators play a pivotal role in shaping lives and inspiring the next generation.
Ms. Wilson also shared her journey as a lifelong learner and her experiences as an ambassador for the teaching profession. As a dedicated history teacher with eleven years of experience, she is currently completing a residency with the South Carolina Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA).
