students and their posters

September was Attendance Awareness Month, and the state of South Carolina, along with Abbeville County School District, worked to encourage a culture of perfect attendance. This year's Attendance Awareness Campaign, titled Be Present – Be Powerful, highlighted the importance of showing up to school and how it can positively shape a student's future.

As part of the initiative, Abbeville County School District invited each school to participate in a poster contest aimed at building student awareness about the importance of regular school attendance. Through their artwork, students were able to express the value of attending school every day and how it helps them engage in vital instruction time while fostering habits that will serve them throughout their academic and professional lives.

When students make a commitment to attend school every day, they set themselves up for success in whatever path they choose—whether it be college, the workforce, the military, or their future careers.

Today, we are excited to announce the winners of this year’s poster contest. We are incredibly proud of all the students who participated and helped spread the message of the power of attendance!

  • 1st runner-up: Gavin Lay from CTE

  • 2nd runner-up: Emery Milford from DHS

  • Winner: Grace Moore from WMS

Congratulations to our winners and to all the students for their creativity and hard work. Your posters have inspired us all to Be Present – Be Powerful!

Let's continue to champion school attendance every day because when students attend today, they achieve tomorrow!
