WIDA
WIDA provides language development resources to those who support the academic success of multilingual learners. We offer a comprehensive, research-based system of language standards, assessments, professional learning and educator support. WIDA’s comprehensive system is used by members of the WIDA Consortium, a U.S.-based collaborative group of 42 member states, territories and federal agencies.
WIDA Assessments are tools designed to measure the English language proficiency of multilingual learners (MLs). These assessments help educators understand students' language development and tailor instruction to meet their needs. Key WIDA assessments include:
ACCESS for ELLs: This annual assessment measures students' proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. It helps determine whether students qualify for English language support services and monitors their progress over time.
WIDA Screener: Administered to new students who indicate a language other than English on their Home Language Survey, this screener assesses English proficiency to identify students as MLs and determine their eligibility for language support services.
WIDA Alternate ACCESS: Designed for MLs with significant cognitive disabilities, this assessment provides an alternative means to measure English language proficiency, ensuring all students have access to appropriate language support services.
